AI Chats Week 51-24

Bernie Goldbach and I discuss the AI for Personal Productivity programme we've developed over the past year.

In this video,

and I discuss the progress of our “AI for Personal Productivity” programme, which began in late 2023 and has grown significantly since its inception. Designed to empower individuals with AI-enhanced tools and strategies, the programme has been iterated over five cohorts and rolled out in various formats across institutions, catering to diverse needs.

Our conversation highlighted the programme’s focus on holistic processes rather than specific tools. While AI tools are introduced, the emphasis remains on fostering purposeful, outcomes-based systems that integrate seamlessly into personal and professional contexts. AI is an augmenter, enhancing efficiency and creativity without overshadowing the user’s intrinsic capabilities.

We delved into the programme's unique peer-learning dynamic, where participants from varied backgrounds contribute to a rich tapestry of perspectives. This diversity has uncovered challenges such as ethical concerns, corporate policies, and the environmental costs of AI adoption. Discussions around these topics have been vital in preparing participants to responsibly navigate the complexities of technology.

An emerging theme in our work is the cognitive impact of AI reliance. Cognitive offloading, while beneficial, raises concerns about over-dependence and its effect on learning, memory, and problem-solving. To counterbalance this, we emphasise traditional methods such as handwriting, which supports deeper learning and creativity.

Looking ahead, the programme will explore agentic AI, enabling participants to automate and optimise workflows further. This evolution reflects our commitment to staying at the forefront of technological advancements while maintaining a critical, user-centric approach.
